Team PONY went to visit the YouTube superstar, This Esme!
Team PONY was lucky enough to meet equestrian YouTuber Esme, who’s behind the channel ‘This Esme’. With some super stats (more than 90,000 subscribers and 11 million views!), Esme vlogs about her life with her two ponies, Casper and Mickey, and makes videos with tips and advice for her subscribers.
We were excited to meet Casper and Mickey, and her three donkeys, Willow, Bruno and Toby. But we were really keen to ask Esme some questions, too. Here’s what we found out…

How long have you been riding and how did you get into it?
I started riding at our local riding school when I was five, after many months of asking for lessons. They used to hack past our house and I would always watch the ponies from my bedroom window.
I joined The Pony Club when I was nine and it’s taught me so much over the years, especially how much I love camp! I mainly do showjumping with Casper now, but we both enjoy the thrill of cross-country, too.
How did you get into vlogging?
I first started making video edits and vlogs on my phone about two years ago, mainly to track mine and Casper’s progress. From there it’s grown and grown, more than I could ever have imagined!
I love being able to share my passion for ponies. It’s also lovely to hear from my fans that they’ve been inspired to start riding or my vlogs have helped them with their riding confidence.
Did you know? As well as making YouTube videos and studying for her school exams, Esme works at a vets part time!
What video has been the most fun to make?
I really enjoy making all my videos, however, my series ‘Mail Time with Mickey’ is great fun. Mickey makes me laugh so much sometimes that I can’t get my words out and I never know what he’s going to do next!
Some videos are easier than others to film and edit. For every minute you see on YouTube, it usually takes at least three hours to produce. However, with some of the cinematic videos (which are more like films, rather than me talking to the camera), it can easily take double that.
What’s the most exciting pony-related thing that’s ever happened to you?
In March, I spoke at the annual Pony Club conference, and I got to meet and chat to Princess Anne – that was pretty exciting!
My riding highlight was competing at Hickstead on Casper. It was a really amazing experience to ride in an arena where so many incredible riders have been before.
What question do you get asked the most?
‘How do you keep your horses so clean?!’ It’s a good question because even I wonder why I have two light-coloured ponies sometimes!
