The Island Stallion by Walter Farley

This magical story will take you to a dessert Island in the Caribbean, where a heard of untamed Spanish horses roam free. The story follows archaeologist Steve Duncan, and his local friend Pitch, who go in search of the wild horses on Azul Island. Steve bonds with a beautiful chestnut stallion who he names Flame, and their bond is tested when Flame’s life is in danger and Steve’s the only one who can save him.

This is the fourth book in the The Black Stallion series and, even though the story was written quite a few decades ago, it remains a gripping read for horsey teens.
