Rehomed Redwings ponies triumph at the Royal Norfolk Show

It was a super day of showing for the rehomed Redwings ponies as they dominated the rescue classes

Redwings pony, Patchwork, took the top spot in the ridden rescue class at The Royal Norfolk Show which took place on the 29–30 June. Patchwork, a 13.2hh 13-year-old cob mare, was rescued by Redwings in 2009 when she was discovered on school grounds along with 11 other ponies after being neglected and abandoned.

When she arrived at Redwings Patchwork was underweight and had a high worm burden as well as lice, and her blood tests showed that she had suffered damage to both her intestines and liver.

Today, Patchwork is unrecognisable and impressed the judges with both her incredible transformation and her impeccable turnout in the ridden class. Yvette, one of Patchwork’s guardian’s, said: “Patchwork, or Millie as we call her, has done us proud today. We don’t show regularly, and she spends most of the time as a happy hacker with my mum, but we love to bring her to the Norfolk Show to represent Redwings and show how great rehomed Redwings horses can be!”

But Patchwork wasn’t the only success story of the day, Edward, a cob gelding, took 2^nd place in the in-hand rescue class at his first ever show. Edward’s guardian, Claire, said: “I’m beyond proud of Edward. Before this he’d never really left our yard and now here he is competing at county show level. He behaved amazingly in the ring, and I couldn’t be happier with him!”

Joining Edward in the in-hand rescue class were three other Redwings ponies, Matty who took 5^th, Stardust who came 6^th and Rocket who came 7^th. They’d already had a busy day being a part of the Royal Norfolk Show Rescue Village, where they met the public to help promote the Redwings rehoming scheme.

Rachel Angell, Head of Norfolk Equine Operations, who heads up the charity’s rehoming scheme said: “What fabulous results for team Redwings at the Norfolk Show. To see our rescued horses doing so well, and their Guardians supporting Redwings by showing them at such a prestigious event, is wonderful! It is such a great opportunity to show what our ponies can do in their new homes and will hopefully inspire others to rehome a horse from Redwings.”
