10 things to love when spring is around the corner

The past few weeks have been nothing but rain and now frost, which makes it hard to see the positive side of winter. Although you love your pony, weather like this and darker days can take their toll but we’re here to remind you of all the positive things to look forward to!

1. Lighter evenings – riding after school as soon as it’s lighter is always sooo much more fun. Nothing beats the warm air, sunny evenings and spending every spare minute with your fave pony.
2. Dry weather – not having to wear hundreds of layers and managing to keep both you and your pony dry when you ride is bliss, especially after the winter we’ve had.
3. No mucking out – if you turn your pony out 24/7 from springtime through to autumn, then you’ll know what an amazing feeling it is to not have the chore of mucking out a stable.
4. No more mud – it’s so disheartening when you’ve taken ages to groom all the mud off your pony only to have him dive straight into it when you turn him out again, but soon those days will be behind you!
5. Extra time – having that extra time in the evenings (which also seems to make the weekends feel longer too) allows you to get so much more done! We’re not just talking about horsey chores – you’ll have more time to hang out with friends at the yard or go for longer hacks without having to worry about the daylight running out.
6. Adventures – the ground becomes much softer and less boggy, which makes adventuring out to new places for hacks so much more doable! You can also enjoy more beach trips with your friends without being blown away by the wind!
7. Quality time – when the weather is dry and brighter, it makes spending time with your pony that much easier. You can watch him out in the field, take him for in-hand walks, bath him and even have a go at some natural horsemanship.
8. No more rugs – unless there are some showers, your pony can enjoy some fresh air and sunshine on his coat. It also means not having to swap between rugs, which is always such a faff!
9. Cross-country – it won’t be long before you’re back out with wind whipping past your ears and through your pony’s mane out on a cross-country course.
10. Super-shiny coats – seeing your pony’s coat shine in the sun is the best feeling and it also makes him look super-smart when you’re out competing at a show!
