Spend some time with your pony out of the saddle and have some fun together
Looking for things to do with your fave pony that don’t involve riding? Look no further, we have some great ideas that will keep you and your pony entertained!
- Pony picnic – take your fave snacks and your pony’s fave treats to the yard and set up a super-cute pony picnic – you could even get your best pony pals and their ponies involved too!
- Play in water – if your pony is a keen bean for water, take him for a play in a nearby stream or even a big puddle – just don’t forget to take your waterproofs and wellies!
- Groom – not only does this create a special bond between you and your pony but your pony will look fab afterwards, too – well that is until he rolls!
- Play time – use an exercise ball or another cool toy that your pony won’t be scared of and take him into the arena for some play time.
- In-hand hacking – take your pony for an in-hand hack either somewhere new or around your normal route. It’s a great way for him to learn to trust you from the ground and it could come in handy when you come to ride him out on a hack.
- Watching him graze – switch off and spend some time watching him chill in the field as he munches on some grass.
- Massage – give your pony the ultimate spa day by treating him to a massage!
- Practice makes perfect – practise your plaiting for your next comp if your pony is happy to stand still while you do it. You could even have a chat with him or sing him a little song to keep him entertained!
- Obstacle course – pop some items in the school such as a wheelie bin or some poles to create an obstacle course. It will give your pony something different to think about and if he’s scared on any of the obstacles, it’s a great way for him to learn to trust you.
- Treasure hunt – grab your pony’s fave treats and hide them around his stable or in his field so he has to search for them – don’t forget to make a note of where you put them, though, in case he needs some help finding them!
