Hi, can someone help ? My 20 year old connie is still shedding her winter coat (in August !) and I am worried that it might be cushings. She was fine last year and lost it all by the end of June to beginning of July. She hasn’t been ridden for a while but the I rode he yesterday and she felt very different normally she plus along and it is a struggle to get her to trot but yesterday she was doing a jogging walk and when I asked her to trot she burst into a canter. Another thing she does is get excited when going over poles. She also keeps throwing her head up in the air as though she has got a sore back but the vet said that her back is fine. We also hv a thoroughbred and he lost his winter coat in June but my connie is still loosing and now she is starting to get fluffier again but out thoroughbred still has his glossy summer coat. Her hooves are quite tender no matter what we do and she has kinda got a round belly even though we r trying to get her slimmer. She hasn’t had laminitis yet or been excessively weeing. She does we more than our other horse. But I don’t know if I would call it excessively weeing. Plz help as I am worried but I dont want to waste the vets time, call him out get the blood test done and then find out it is nothing. I do think that it is likely to be Cushings but I want to make sure. Also can I ride my pony if she turns out to hv cushings ? Thanks in advance, NaomiSparkle X

Hi chestnutdunny2, my fave is lemieux lavender. For my bday I am gonna ask my parents to get me the saddle pad and top, then my brothers for the hat silk and my cousin and uncle for the fly veil, then with my bday money I’m gonna get the leg bandages. By the way if u wanna get the fly veil and other stuff then go on Discount Equestrian u will get it for about £10 cheaper. This is where I’m gonna get my stuff. NaomiSparkle X

Hi, ZarraCrazyHorseGirl, I hv a 13.2hh Connemara called Naomi (Nana) and a Thoroughbred called Prince, he is actually my mums but when we get a sand school (at the moment we hv a make shift grass school) we r going to train him to let me ride him and then I want to start properly jumping. Prince is 11 and very fussy and excitable and Nana is 20 but still has tons of energy. We keep our horses at our own place and so it is easier to be around them all day than going up and down to a livery yard I suppose. Good luck with your new horse ! NaomiSparkle

my routine is 8:00 a.m put one horse out in the field ride the other. 9:00 a.m put the one i`ve ridden out in the field. 4:00 a.m bring them both into the stable.

i have 2 wonderfull ponies and i feel so lucky! a share can be good if you don`t want the full commiment but a pony of your own is such a lovely thing to have. you might have to look for ages though if you want a really good pony but i got my pony on the first try! good luck.lovemypony xx

Hi, just wondering who here loves matchy matchy sets ! If u do then what colours do u hv and what colour is yr horse ? Mine is the lemieux lavender range on my grey connie. Also, who here gets rlly annoyed when someone isn’t wearing matchy matchy ex: bay horse, blue saddle pad, red fly veil, yellow boots, white top, navy riding hat. I dont know if it’s just me or what but I get so annoyed when I see this, of course I don’t say anything but it gets on my nerves. My mum is exactly like this, she doesn’t care about matchy and will just go for any old colour whether as I like to hv matchy matchy all of the time. So what r yr faves ? NaomiSparkle

    Hi ZaaraCrazyHorseGirl,
My routine is at 9:00am I give my horses they’re hay then at 10:00am to 11:00am they go in the paddock (depending on the weather) then at 2:00pm we bring in the horses and I ride mine for an hour in the school and the other is tied up at the fence to watch, then at 3:00pm they go back out to the field and I muckout and prepare the stables, then at 6:00pm we bring them in. Unless it is rlly nice out in which case they would stay out for the night.
If u r wanting to get a loan pony then that’s great but dont be afraid to ask loads of questions ex: ask if u can see the vet and farrier visits to see how they react and how they load and give them a bath to see how they react to water and do lots of different things in the school to see how they react as some of these may be important for yr needs. I hv a cousin who didn’t ask enough questions with her first loan Missy a piebald cob and cuz of that she went for a whole year with a horse that never cooperated in the school and buckled constantly if she wanted to do schooling or jumping. Then if they went on a hack she was like a brain dead zombie, now she has returned Missy and is now leaning a bay New Forest called Mouse and is able to do all sorts of things. So what I’m saying is get a good idea of what u want to do and maybe make a list of what the pony has to be able to do and then search online etc and view as many as u can before u make any decisions. Hope this helps NaomiSparkle

Hi, My faves r defineatly :
    Connemara,
    Thoroughbred,
    Shetland,
    Arab,
    New Forest,
    and a Cob.
P.S. I hv a Connemara and a Thoroughbred right outside my window as I write this, I used to help groom super fluffy shetlands at a yard with my friend and I learnt to ride when I was 5yrs old on a super cute sqewbald Shetland called Marble, my favorite books r the Jinny at Finmory series cuz there is a beautiful chestnut Arab in it, my cousin has a new forest and he sooo sweeet !, and I rode the calmest cob on earth for his owner he was nicknamed “Steady Eddie”. So that is all of the reasons for why I love these breeds !

Hi chestnutdunny2! Well done for doing ur first canter!!! 🥳😄👏👏👏👏I remember how excited I was when I did mine! 😊 Make sure you relax in ur knees and don’t grip with them. Try to roll with the canter and don’t tense up. When I started canter, I leant back quite a lot, what really helped me with that was having a lunge lesson. Maybe you can get a riding teacher to help you with that? Just remember to relax through your body and Don’t tense up. Have fun riding! Springles_pony123 x😋

  22. NaomiSparkle says:

Hi chestnutdunny2, I did my first canter not too long ago on my fave pony Naomi. Here r some tips:
1: When u r cantering always make sure u keep yr heels down and back straight.
2: It is so easy to tip forward so always make sure that u sit back (just not to far back 😂)
3: Always keep a good contact with your ponys mouth it is so easy because of the rhythm of the canter to keep accidentally pulling.
4: When u r cantering try to push with yr seat and legs (but keeping them always in the same position) to urge your pony forward if he can be quite lazy, if not then try putting a piece of paper under your bum possibly, and imagine that if it flies away then u wont get a new riding hat or boots or something. Some people say to imagine it’s there but its alot easier to actually hv it there than imagine. Hope this helps ! NaomiSparkle
