How to keep your pony happy during turnout time

Spending time in the field is the best part of any pony’s daily routine. But what can you do to keep him safe and happy so he can enjoy his time outside? Check out our tips!

In good company

Most ponies love being with their friends, especially in the field, because it means they can play and groom each other! So, to keep your pony happy, try to make sure he’s never left alone and always has a pal nearby, especially if he’s turned out individually. It’s a good idea to speak to the owners of his pony friends to check they’re in a similar routine.

Ultimate protection

It’s really important you offer your pony suitable protection from the weather when he’s out in the field. Providing him with shelter from the wind, rain, sun and flies will go a long way towards him enjoying paddock time. Remember, hedges and trees offer shelter, too!

Things to do

Being out in the field is a great way to keep your pony moving, but he also might enjoy some extra stimulation! Why not give him a treat ball with a few of his fave fibre treats in? Or pop some of his hay ration in a slow feeder? Anything that will help keep his brain busy is a bonus!
