Five fun horsey things to do at home

Keep yourself busy this weekend with these fun, pony-filled activities

Are you pony-mad and looking for fun things to do while away from the yard? Well, look no further. Team PONY’s got loads of ideas to keep you busy and entertained. Aside from the pony tv-shows, books and movies we already love, here are some awesome ideas for you to have a go at…

  1. Plan your progress

Get prepped for the days, weeks or even months ahead and create a schedule to get your pony super-fit for your next comp or Pony Club camp. It’s the perfect time to sit down and work out the best way to maximise your training sessions. You might find an upcoming clinic with a pro-rider or a new venue to take your pony schooling.

  1. Do exercises that’ll improve your riding skills

Being balanced in the saddle is super-important. Doing exercises to improve your stability is a great way to keep your riding muscles active while you’re not riding. If you haven’t ridden in a few weeks or months, you might find yourself feeling a bit stiff after your first ride back. To stop this from happening, make sure you warm up before you ride and stretch out after. It’ll help you keep fit and strong, too!

  1. Practise a dressage test on foot

Whether you’ve got a comp coming up or just want to build your skills, why not have a go at learning and practising a dressage test on foot around the garden? It’s the perfect way to test your memory and think about how you’d ride the test on your fave pony. Print out or draw your markers on some paper to set up your arena and you’re good to go!

  1. Brush up your knowledge

The equestrian world is ever-evolving and there’s always new things to learn. Does your pony have poor hoof condition, for example? Have a go at researching to find out how you can help him and improve his hooves! There are endless things to learn – you’ll be a pony pro in no time.

  1. Pony-fy your bedroom

You may already have loads of pics of your fave pony around your bedroom. But why not make it even more pony-mad? You could make pony bunting, create a new display for your rosettes or if you’re super-talented, make your own pony cushion from scratch! You’ll be sure to make your pony pals jealous next time they come for a sleepover.
