Make a pumpkin unicorn!
Check out this super-cute autumn make!
It’s pumpkin season, but make it horsey! Decorate your windowsill, doorstep or even bedroom with this sweet, simple design!
You’ll need…
- Pumpkin
- Poster paint
- Brush
- Marker pen or black paint
- Gold pen or sparkly paint for the horn
- Air-dry clay or salt dough
- Card
- Glue
- Decorations – we used flowers
Step 1
Choose a firm pumpkin – you want your display to last well, so ones with soft spots are best avoided!
Step 2
Cover your working area with paper to prevent mess.
Step 3
Begin by painting the bottom of your pumpkin – you can choose any colour, but we went for white.
Step 4
While the paint dries on the bottom, make the unicorn horn.
Step 5
Roll out salt dough or air-drying clay into two sausage shapes, making sure one end is thinner and the other wider. Then twist the two together, pinching the thin ends together to make the end of the horn.
Step 6
Dry the horn, either in a low oven or following the instructions, then decorate.
Step 7
Once the bottom of your pumpkin is dry, turn it over and paint the rest. You might need two coats to get a really good finish.
Step 8
When the paint has dried, draw on eyes using a marker pen or fine paint brush.
Step 9
Paint the horn and glue it to the base of the stalk.
Step 10
Cut two ears from card, colour or decorate them, and stick either side of the stalk.
Step 11
Glue flowers in place around the horn to make a pretty crown.
TOP TIP
Ask an adults to use a glue gun to secure the horn, ears and decorations.
TOP TIP
Make your pumpkin last longer by using faux flowers rather than fresh ones.
