Make a pony pencil topper!
A cute way to decorate your pencils and pens
What you’ll need…
- Thin, coloured card
- Scissors
- Glue
- Sticky tape
- Pens or pencils
- Stick-on gems
TOP TIP
Why not make a stable of pony pencil toppers, with each one in a different colour?
TOP TIP
You can use the same piece of card for the whole pencil topper, or choose a different colour for the mane and forelock.
How to make it…
Step one
Download, print and trace the templates, then cut them out and draw around them on a piece of card. Ask an adult for help when using scissors. You can download the template here.
Step two
Carefully cut out the pony’s head, making sure you cut along all the bold lines shown on the template. Then cut out the ears, mane and forelock and put these to pieces to one side.
Step three
Using the template as a guide, fold your card where the dotted lines are shown. This will make it easier for you to glue your pony together.

Step four
Curl the neck of your paper pony around your pencil. Carefully position him so the top of the pencil’s a few millimetres below the top of his head. Then secure his neck with tape.
Step five
Next, put a blob of glue on the nose tabs and press them together. Glue the top and bottom of the head in the same way. Make sure you tuck the corners of each tab into your topper, so your pony looks flawless!
Step six
Carefully glue the ears in place. Don’t forget to fold the ears up, to make your pony look alert and happy!
Step seven
Dab some glue on the tab that runs along the mane and attach it to your pony’s neck. Don’t worry if it’s too long, you can always trim it later! Now take the forelock and secure it between the ears.
Step eight
To finish your pencil topper, use scissors to snip into the mane and forelock, so they look more like hair. Then add a gem to create your pony’s eye!

TOP TIP
The closer together your snips are, the fuller the mane will look!
