Approved standards for riding hats updated for Pony Club competitions in 2023

Riding in Pony Club competitions this year? Make sure your riding hat is up to date. The approved standards for hats have changed for all Pony Club competitions in 2023 and beyond. Going forward, PAS 015 (1998) and Snell E2001 are no longer approved for competition unless combined with one of the current permitted standards.

The new hat standards for the Pony Club for 2023 are as follows:

  • PAS 015: 2011 with BSI Kitemark
  • VG1 with BSI Kitemark
  • Snell E2016 onwards with the official Snell label and number
  • ASTM-F1163 2004a onwards with the SEI mark
  • AS/NZS 3838, 2006 onwards

Remember to leave plenty of time before your first event for your hat to be retagged (PINK Tag) before competing.

It is also important to ensure your hats fits properly. If you need help fitting your hat or if you are thinking of buying a new hat, you can find retailers who are trained hat fitters on the BETA members’ directory, which can be found on its website.
