Miracle rescue foals, Ginny and Thor, enjoy new life at HorseWorld

Horseworld rescued foals

When Thor and Ginny’s mums were rescued, nobody was sure whether they’d survive, but luckily both mums and foals are now safe and happy under the care of HorseWorld Trust

In 2021, HorseWorld rescued three pregnant mares, Lisa Jane, Pink Champagne and Tango. They hadn’t been looked after very well and vets were worried because, despite being pregnant, the mares were very thin. Sadly, Tango was so poorly that the vets decided the kindest thing to do was to put her to sleep. Lisa Jane and Pink Champagne were both taken to HorseWorld and needed round the clock care to help nurse them back to health.

A few weeks after being rescued, Lisa Jane gave birth to her foal early, meaning that he was very weak and couldn’t stand up by himself. He was so tiny that he had to wear a dog coat to keep him warm. The HorseWorld team looked after him day and night and eventually their hard work paid off and he was able to stand and feed by himself! He was such a fighter that the team named him Thor.

Not long after, Pink Champagne had her foal too, but it quickly became clear that something wasn’t right. The vets were called straight away and both mum and baby were diagnosed with an infection. Thanks to the quick action of vets and HorseWorld staff the pair made a full recovery. To match her mum, the little foal was named Pink Gin – Ginny for short.

Both foals are now growing up happily at HorseWorld and the Fundraising and Engagement Coordinator, Amy Williams, said: “Ginny and Thor will never know the cruelty and neglect that their mothers suffered because HorseWorld will always make sure their every need is met.”
