Guy Williams and Alex Leggott – aka the Hulk and Batman – win Bolesworth’s Mini Major

It was thrills aplenty in Bolesworth’s Mini Major, but the Hulk-Batman partnership of popular British showjumper Guy Williams and young rider Alex Leggott who came out on top.

The LeMieux Mini Major class at the Dodson & Horrell Bolesworth International Horse Show on Sunday 3rd July 2022, was won by Guy Williams and Alex Leggott who were dressed as the Hulk and Batman.

If you’re not quite sure what a Mini Major is, it’s a superb competition where a professional showjumper is paired with a younger rider. After the bell sounds, the young rider and their pony tackle a smaller course of jumps (five in this case) and, as the pony and rider cross the last fence, the professional rider sets off to tackle a short course of fences of around 1.20m. The fastest round wins, with penalties added for every pole down.

And if that doesn’t sound fun enough, everyone is in fancy dress. Yes, Guy and Alex won and were dressed as the Hulk and Batman. However, there was also a unicorn (Jay Halim), Wonder Woman (Gemma Tattersall), Power Ranger (William Fletcher), Superman (Simon Crippen) another Hulk (Ben Hobday) joined by a mini Batgirl, princess, mini Hulk, knight in addition to many others.

The crowd went wild for every combination with huge support coming from the full banks of Bolesworth’s International Arena. Both horse and pony riders were determined to win, with some amazing lines and jumping from both minis and majors.

The class was won by Guy William and Alex Leggott on a score of 44.31. Alex rode a second time in the competition with Sven Joseph Hadley and finished 10^th with him.

On finishing the class, one of Alex’s team commented that he’d wanted to be paired with Guy as they both ride the same way, which was clearly for speed!

The winners took home a stunning saddlepad from class sponsors, LeMieux.
