Get ready for showing this year with entries now open for the Search for a Star Pony Club series

If you’re a Pony Club member aged over five, you could become a showing star! Entries have opened for the SEIB Search for a Star Pony Club series and there are three classes to choose from – lead rein, first ridden and open. Seven qualifying shows will be held around England, Scotland and Northern Ireland, ending with the championship at Your Horse Live in November.

This year, so that more children can compete, the maximum height for first ridden has increased to 138cm, so check your pony’s height if you’re hoping to take part.

There’ll be plenty of encouragement and support for all Pony Club competitors, and top judges and stewards will be at the shows to help and give advice. And if you want a bit of extra training beforehand, two ‘weekender’ events are planned for 2023 (one in Scotland and one in England), so you can brush up your showing skills in advance.

Last year, the Pony Club Search for a Star supreme title was won by the lead-rein champion Thistledown Elpaso (Elvis), a grey Welsh section A, and his rider seven-year-old Emily Hiscox.

Emily’s mum, Heather, said: “We found the comments and feedback from the Search for a Star judges in the ring really helpful. The Search for a Star team in general were amazing… particularly for someone new to showing.”
