Eglinton Hunt PC is headed to HOYS!

Emma-and-Billy

Learn all about how the EHPC mounted games team qualified for HOYS and follow their journey here

Dear diary…

On 10th July, the Eglinton Hunt PC mounted games team competed at the Northern Zones Finals against teams from all over Scotland and Northern England. It was a super-exciting day with fast racing, and the team did an awesome job to take the win!

The team will now compete for the Prince Philip Cup at Horse of the Year Show. Only six teams out of 250 from across the UK get to ride at HOYS, and we’re so proud that Eglinton will be representing Scotland!

Meet the team…

Emma-and-Billy

Emma’s been a member of Eglinton Pony Club for 10 years. She instantly fell in love with games when she first tried it aged five. She also loves showjumping and cross-country, but games is her main focus – leading her down to the Pony Club Championships for the last four years!

She rides her amazing pony Billy, who she’s owned for the past year. He’s a special pony who just loves to gallop and race. He absolutely lives for games as much as Emma and they have formed a great team. Emma has been aiming for HOYS from a very young age and is delighted to get the chance to compete there alongside her fabulous teammates.

Kristin-and-Allie

Kirstin’s been a member of Eglinton Pony Club for eight years. She loves Pony Club camp where she can try all the disciplines, but her real love is mounted games. She cheered on her big cousins at HOYS in 2014, 2016 and 2017, so riding there is a dream come true.

Kirstin’s pony Allie is a seasoned pro, being at HOYS with the Donoghue family on two occasions and with Kirstin’s big cousin in 2014. Allie knows her job inside out and Kirstin just needs to keep up with her!

Eloise-and-Pixy

Eloise has been a member of Eglinton Hunt Pony Club for 12 years and loves mounted games. Eloise’s pony Pixy was a rescue pony who she’s had for 11 years. Pixy is now 14 and at the top of her game. They’ve made a great partnership over the years and were selected to represent Scotland at the Royal Windsor Horse Show in 20221, which was amazing!

Kate-and-Venusia

Kate’s been a member of Eglinton pony Club for 12 years and mounted games is her passion! She was the sixth member for her sister Heather’s team at HOYS in 2016 and 2017, so is absolutely delighted to have the chance to ride with her team at HOYS this year!

Kate’s pony Venusia is super-speedy and loves to race. They’ve formed a great bond over the last few years and were proud to be part of the Scottish Games Team competing at Windsor earlier this year.

Blair-and-Gizmo

Blair is 12 years old and learned to ride when he was four on a miniature Shetland called Shadow. This is his first year riding with Eglinton Seniors and he can’t believe they’ve qualified for HOYS!

Blair has been riding Gizmo for two years. Gizmo knows his job very well and he loves to gallop in open fields – he can even do a few tricks, too! In Blair’s spare time, he likes to play rugby and the bagpipes. He hopes to play the pipes at HOYS to entertain the other teams.

Aoife-and-Tillie

Aoife’s been a member of Eglinton Hunt Pony Club for six years. In her first year at PC camp, she was encouraged to try mounted games, which she’s loved ever since! It didn’t take long before her teammates became her closest friends.

Aoife’s had her pony Tillie since November and is enjoying getting to know her and her fast racing! In the past, Aoife has supported Eglinton at HOYS and is excited to be part of the team as the sixth member.

So, what happened next?

The very next day after qualifying, we met up at our trainer’s house to talk about everything and anything to do with HOYS. Luckily, Eglinton has a long history of qualifying. With parents, siblings and cousins of those in the team having competed in previous years, we’re getting lots of tips on how to plan and what to expect. There’s so much to organise! We need to think of everything our ponies will need while we’re away and all the kit for us – not to mention the rotas for all the food needed to keep us going for the week!

We’re incredibly lucky to be surrounded by people and businesses who are ready to support us so that we can raise funds to realise our dream of competing at HOYS.
