Ebony the mule turns 30!
One of Bransby Horses’ oldest residents celebrates milestone birthday
Back in 1992, Ebony was found wandering the streets of Lincolnshire before Bransby Horses were called to rescue her. No one knew if she’d escaped from a field or been left there but, when nobody claimed to own her, the equine welfare charity got involved to give her all the love, care and attention she needed.
This month, Ebony the mule – who’s the offspring of a female horse and a male donkey – turned 30 and celebrated alongside her friends. She was given an equine-friendly cake, made from grass nuts, carrots and molasses, which she shared with 26-year-old Shetland pony, Cinderella, and 21-year-old Penelope, who is the charity’s only other mule.
The team at Bransby Horses adore Ebony for her cheeky character and cute looks. During her early years at the centre, Ebony liked to keep busy, rather than just grazing in the field, and was trained to pull a small cart. She has very specific care needs due to her age and type so lives with equines that have similar needs. Now, she’s retired and spends her days relaxing with her herd.
