Get into the festive spirit and support an equine charity this Christmas

Looking for some festive fun this weekend and throughout the Christmas holidays? Then, look no further. We’ve put together a handy list of some awesome activities you can get involved in throughout December, all while supporting some fantastic equine charities.

The Donkey Sanctuary

What’s on? Follow the glow and discover enchanting tales of donkeys from all around the world. Spot the hidden items along the way to complete the Christmas activity!

When 5 November – 6 January

World Horse Welfare

What’s on? Fill yourself up with yummy treats at the Christmas afternoon tea. Including seasonal sandwiches, festive cakes and homemade scones, you won’t want to miss this!

When Every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday from 24 November to 19 December (except 5 December)

Bransby Horses Rescue and Welfare

What’s on? Pudding’s Reindeer Roundup! Santa’s reindeer have escaped and need help getting back to the North Pole – can you help Santa and Pudding the Shetland round them all up and save Christmas?

When 27 November – 24 December

Entry fee £5 per child




What’s on? You’ll simply have a wonderful Christmas time at the HAPPA activity days. Jam-packed with decoration workshops, special Frozen visitors and own a pony days!

Cotebrook Shire horse centre and stud farm

What’s on? Visit Santa’s grotto, receive an early Christmas pressie from the man himself and check out the incredible Shire horses!

When 4-5 December and 11-12 December

Mane Chance Sanctuary

What’s on? Sing loud and spread the Christmas cheer at the Mane Chance Sanctuary’s Carols at Christmas. You’ll get to meet some adorable Shetland ponies too, what’s not to love about that?

Redwings Horse Sanctuary

What’s on? A traditional Christmas Fayre with a variety of awesome stalls to give you loads of Christmas gift inspiration, cooking demos and an extra special appearance from some Redwings stars.

When 8 December

Time 10am-4pm

Essex Horse & Pony Protection Society

What’s on? A Christmas Open Day where you can visit all the adorable animals as well as meet Father Christmas!

When 12 December

Time 12-4pm

Entry fee children £1, adults £2



The Suffolk Punch Trust

What’s on? Get festive and make sure you’re on Santa’s nice list at his Farmyard Grotto.

When 17, 18 and 19 December

Time Slots from 12.30pm

Entry fee £10 per child




If you’re unable to attend any of the events, why not support an equine charity in a different way? Check out their online shops for gift inspo for your family and friends – you’re sure to find epic pressies that’ll put a smile on a loved one’s face. Have you ever thought about sponsoring an equine friend? You’ll feel super-happy that you’re giving love and support to a horse, pony or donkey in need. So why not add it to your list to Santa? Or if you’re giving your pony’s wardrobe a clear out to make way for some new items, you could donate all your second-hand items to a charity near you! Make sure they’re still in a usable and good condition, though.
