A flying start for the first ever Pony Club Search for a Star event

SEIB Pony Club Search for a Star Vale View class

Competitors at the very first SEIB Search for a Star competition enjoyed a fun-filled day of showing at Vale View Equestrian, all competing to make it to the final

Search for a Star is a new, super-fun way for Pony Club members to get involved in showing and it got off to a fab start at the first National qualifier on the 24 April. Pony Club teams earn points by attending qualifiers held all around the country, with competitors hoping to make it to the Search for a Star final.

The lead rein class was won by five-year-old Charlotte Knight, riding Dixie. Jamie, Charlotte’s mum, said: “Charlotte goes to Pony Club every week, she and Dixie take part in rallies, we’re out all the time. We’re delighted this series is on as it provides a great learning opportunity, and we can take it slowly and get it right.”

Next came the ridden class, which was won Emily Elliot, who’s eight years old, and her Welsh Section B pony, Issy. The pair are members of the Rufford branch Pony Club. Connie, Emily’s mum, said: “Emily and Issy love being out, they compete in all pony club activities from hunter trials to showjumping to dressage. They’ve done some local showing and are really looking forward to Pony Club camp this summer.”

Finally, it was the open class and competition was fierce, but the winner was Jessica Ross and her Connemara, Rooan De Goariva. Jessica said: “He’s such a great pony, we’ve owned him for the past four years and he’s brilliant at everything we have had a go at.” The pair also compete in side saddle classes and unaffiliated eventing.

SEIB Marketing Manager, Nicolina MacKenzie said: “Search for a Star is providing more opportunities than ever this year. I’m thrilled by how well this qualifier has gone, the first ever Pony Club showing classes were just great. I can’t fault our many competitors today, they’ve been enthusiastic, respectful to each other and entered into the real Search for a Star spirit. I’m so proud of both the competitors and the team who made the whole day happy and inspirational for everyone involved.”
