Go clear XC
Posted 4th June 2018
There’s so much to think about when you’re going cross-country, but that’s all part of the fun!

Every rider wants to go clear and if you’ve prepared well, and you and your pony are both feeling confident, there’s no reason why you can’t.
Walk the course like a pro
You wouldn’t catch William Fox-Pitt skipping a course walk – in fact, he’d be doing it more than once! It might seem like a long way to walk and a lot of effort, but don’t be tempted to skip it because it’s important to know what’s coming so you can make a solid plan of action.
Top tip
Walk the alternative routes as well as the direct routes, just in case!
Position perfect
You’ve probably been told loads of times that having a good, strong position is really important – well that’s because it is! And not only is your position important while you’re going over a fence, you need to think about it while riding between them, too.
Top tip
The best way to improve your XC position is to practise. Check out your May 2018 copy of PONY for loads of tips on how to improve it.
