Leg work quiz!

Do you know how to use your legs effectively? Take our quiz to test your knowledge!

What is the correct leg position? Your leg should be behind your body, to try and get your pony to go faster

Your lower leg should be kept forward – like sitting in an arm chair!

A straight line from your shoulder through your hip to your heel

Where should your foot be placed in the stirrup?

The stirrup should sit under your toes

The stirrup should sit under the ball of your foot

Your foot should be as far through the stirrup as possible for security

In which direction should your toes face?

Forwards, so that your calf muscle lies flat against your pony’s side

Outwards, so that you can use the back of your heel to kick on

Backwards, because it’s more fun to ride facing the wrong way – yeehaaa!

What type of leg aids will get your pony listening?
Constant nagging – he needs to be reminded!

You shouldn’t use leg aids at all!

Fewer, clear, sharp aids to get your point across

What leg aids will slow your pony down?

They won’t – you have to use your reins for this!

Your thigh and knees – squeeze them into the saddle and your pony will slow

Why would I want to slow down? Kick on and GALLOP!

How did you do?
