- Square halt wobbly? Turn your head to the side. Job done Review by Horse&Rider Web editor Kelly McCarthy-Maine
-
Tina Sederholm has the benefit if several lifetimes riding and training experience. Her upbringing at the internationally acclaimed Waterstock House Training Centre allowed Tina to learn both from her father, Lars Sederholm and countless developing and top international riders who passed through their gates. Combined with Tina's incredible creativity and positive attitude, her training advice is nothing short of brilliant.
There are many examples of exercises, adapted over years of practice and experience to choose from and apply to your own riding. One that worked for me was to turn my head when asking for a halt. Apparently, many riders poke their head forward a tiny fraction when asking for the halt, tipping the weight onto the horse's forehand and spoiling the halt.
Turning your head sideways keeps the weight balanced, and the horse can halt square, time and time again. Job done. There are dozens of examples of to cite, a truly excellent book from an innovative, inspired trainer with a solid background. - What I really like about Tina is her ability to explain things so clearly. Anyone of any level can try the exercises in this book, which include quick ways to release tension, how to develop sensitive hands, learning to follow the horse’s movement and many more simple yet effective ways to become a great rider. Tina's ideas are practical, realistic and user-friendly. This book will transform your riding. (Posted on 04/11/2009)
