Ever been on a hack on your fave riding school pony, only to find he munches his way around the bridlepaths, pulling you out of the saddle all the time?
Here are just some of the ways to tackle your pony having a snack out hacking…
- Ponies can snatch leaves and tall grass on the move. It’s up to you to keep a firm contact and push your pony through that contact. Loose reins are just asking for trouble.
- A pony can’t drop his head to graze if he’s moving. Keep your pony in front of your legs, and if you do have to stop, prepare yourself for trouble.
- Don’t give up. You have to be more determined than your pony – he has to be the one to give up!
