Get ready to give your pony the freshest trim this winter!
Clipping season is here and if your pony’s getting sweaty after each ride, it’s time to think about de-fluffing him! Here some things to remember before you get started and handy tips that’ll help get your pony looking his best.
TOP TIP
If the weather’s on your side, give your pony a bath the day before you clip him. If you can’t bath him, it’s time for a very thorough groom.
TOP TIP
Tie your pony up in a clean, dry and secure area and give him a haynet to keep him occupied and encourage him to stand still while he’s getting a haircut.
Remember!
- Whether you’re clipping your pony with an adult’s help, or just watching, it’s important to wear a hat, gloves and sturdy boots to keep you safe.
- Before you begin, consider your pony’s workload and his routine to help decide what clip will suit him best. Don’t forget you may need to rug him once he’s clipped, so make sure his winter wardrobe is ready.
- Check the clipper blades are sharpened and you have plenty of clipper oil to hand – using the oil regularly while clipping will help to prolong the life of your blades and create a neater finish!
TOP TIP
Once you’ve finished clipping, flick the loose hair off your pony with a dandy brush then hot cloth him – add a dash of baby oil to your warm water for an extra shine!
