Amazing Akhal Tekes
Our fabulous feature all about Akhal Teke horses tells you all you need to know about this great breed, but to get you started here are a couple of fab facts!
The Akhal-Teke, or Ahalteke as it is called in the Turkmen language is a breed of horse from Turkmenistan. They are the national emblem of Turkmenistan and are noted for their exceptional endurance.
Few and far between
Currently, there are only about 3,500 Akhal Tekes around the world! Most of these are found in Turkmenistan and Russia, but there are some in Europe, Australia and the United States of America.
What colour?
Some Akhal Tekes have a unique colouring, being a palomino colour but with a distinct metallic shine. Akhal Tekes can be almost any colour, except roan or dun. It is thought that Akhal Tekes have this shimmer as camouflage for in the desert.
