Set in 100 acres of beautiful Costwold countryside, a half-term break at Talland School of Equitation will help you improve your riding, knowledge and pony care experience.

Talland has outstanding facilities with indoor and outdoor arenas, cross-country course and hacking available around the farm, and of course, fantastic ponies to suit all abilities.

What happens on a Talland holiday...

Every day, you will have two group riding lessons and one group stable management lecture. You will also get to spend time grooming your pony and learning practical pony care when you are not riding.

A typical day will be:

  • Wake up call and scrummy breakfast
  • Get ready to go and collect the ponies from the field
  • Groom the ponies needed for the lessons including yours, plus learn general yard skills
  • First riding lesson of the day
  • Lunch break
  • Stable management lecture
  • Groom and prepare your pony for your second lesson
  • Second riding lesson
  • Participate in feeding the ponies
  • Help with turning out the ponies
  • Break - phew!
  • Dinner and retire to the common room - bring your copies of PONY Magazines!


During your half-term holiday, you and your best horsey pal will be sharing bunk beds in Talland's purpose-built residence hall. The accommodation offers bunk-beds for you to share. Meals are freshly prepared every day - which is good because with all that riding, you sure will be hungry!

The Talland School of Equitation is a world renowned British Horse Society and Association of British Riding Schools approved equestrian centre offering top class tuition in dressage, showjumping, cross-country and side saddle.

Talland was founded in 1958 by Mrs Molly Sivewright, who is still actively involved in the running and management of the School. Talland is now run by one of her daughters, international dressage rider and trainer Pammy Hutton, FBHS with her husband Brian Hutton, BHSI and a host of other prominent instructors.

Talland offers the opportunity to ride and train on quality horses and ponies under highly qualified instruction and to also watch international horses in training.

There are between 85 and 100 horses from youngsters through to well trained, experienced schoolmaster competition horses on-site, allowing Talland to cater for complete beginners to Olympic level riders, and to train students to Fellowship level.

Talland prides itself on its warm welcome to visitors of all ages and abilities and is happy to offer courses to suit the individual as well as unaccompanied children's courses throughout the holidays.

The small print

This offer is valid Monday to Friday during the October 2009 half-term. Participants must arrive at Talland on the Monday by 9:00am and depart Friday by 5:00pm.
